Blood Machine by Matt Howarth, Sonic Curiosity 2001 This 73 minute collaboration between Roach and Vir Unis (aka John Strate-Hootman) is the long-awaited follow-up to their BODY ELECTRIC release in 1999 (on Projekt). Highly rhythmic, this music abounds with hyper-tempos of a synthesized nature. These rapid-fire BPMs bear little semblance to conventional percussives, often comprising wholly unearthly origins and resonance. Wind these electro-rhythms around riffs that glisten with sinuous qualities, enticing the listener with their complex patterns. Inject softly mechanical edges every once in a while, but then allow these industrial touches to transform into insectoid cycles. Immerse this complexity in a field of dreamy tones and drifting atmospherics, shimmering with inner illumination and wisdom. And nicest of all: the compositions are lively, pleasantly engaging, and thoroughly thrilling. The cover art for this CD features some truly awesome computer generated abstract images by Vir Unis that merge organic circulatory networks with flowing spectral emissions.
