Before the Sacrifice is on these releases:
| Truth & Beauty Steve Roach 2010 Timeroom Editions / Projekt PRO241 (CD) Reviewed by Exposé, Sequences, Synth Music DirectTRUTH & BEAUTY is a perfect blend of Steve's rich atmospheric and tribal ambient infused work. Originally released in March 1999 on Steve's own Timeroom Editions label, this album is now co-released by Timeroom and Projekt, at a nice price. This will be the first time the album is available in retail stores.
Though the 10 tracks were recorded over an 11-year period in different environments and for different creative projects, they work remarkably well together as a whole. Five of the tracks are previously unreleased covering sessions from DREAMTIME RETURN, the Suspended Memories collaboration with Suso Saiz on guitar, STORMWARNING and ARTIFACTS. Complementing those pieces are 5 tracks recorded specifically for now out-of-print international compilations. They work together to create a connected storyline, like the soundtrack for an imaginary film. TRUTH & BEAUTY is an exploration into the enduring power of Steve Roach's artistic vision.
A Timeroom Editions / Projekt joint re-release. 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 previously unreleased; 4, 5 with Suso Saiz. |

Some of the pieces have appeared on multi-artist samplers, while others have been gathered for this special release. TRUTH & BEAUTY creates a connected story line, which seems to fit together like the soundtrack to an imaginary film. Check the discography for a track listing.

| Twilight Earth Various Artists 1994 Timebase LC 5432 (CD) Reviewed by Harbinger HourThis cross-section of the best and brightest stars on the ethnographical plateau is not only one of the most representative of the genre, it's one of the few collections worth owning. O Yuki Conjugate leads things off in a ghostly fashion with the ominous "Insect-Talk (Dry)" six minutes of eerie percussives, hushed chants, ganking bass and nocturnal electronics. Vidna Obmana's "The Embrace in Motion" shows how influential his recent mindmelds with Steve Roach have been as he explores the same morass of electronic primordialism to chilling effect, while Roach himself chimes in with "Before the Sacrifice", featuring tribal, penetrating hand-struck percussions and canyon-deep chords of synth that envelop you totally. Jorge Reyes dabbles in yet more of his singular acoustic prehispanics, while the mysterious Belgian troupe known as Hybryds explores infinitely frightening realms on "Orca". Temps Perdu? continue to amaze with "Rano Raraku" which suggests murky abyssal depths but has cosmic overtones as well. And there's further remarkable contributions from the likes of Jeff Greinke, Alio Die, Paul Schütze (deep-space electronics mixed with Hassell-like ethereal beats), Voice of Eye, Dino Oon & Konrad Kraft and Human Flesh." -- Darren Bergstein, i/e Magazine
